The top eight teams in NCAA basketball are grouped under the term "Elite Eight". The Elite Eight of Division 1 includes the two teams from the regional final or national quarterfinal. Four such regional finals are played and the winner advances to the Final Four tournament. Since 1997, the name Elite Eight has been trademarked by the NCAA.
